Catherine Ford is a British actress who was born in Bloomsbury. Following the time her father left her family, she was brought up by her mother, grandparents, and godparents. While a small infant, Ford struggled with anxiety and obsessive-compulsive disorder caused by the word association. Ford's interest in acting began when she was young. Ford joined at the National Youth Theatre. She was admitted to Sylvia Young Theatre School but after just one week she realized that she was not a fit. Ford applied instead for admission to the Central School of Speech and Drama and eventually secured an interview on her fourth attempt. Shaun Dingwall played Pete Tyler on Doctor Who. Ford was able to graduate in 1993, but she made her television debut in the 1992 episode Surgical Spirit. She adopted the title Catherine Tate. Through the Nineties, Tate could be found on TV in shows like The Bill, Men Behaving Badly and London's Burning. Also, she was a regular performer in the theatre, eventually joining in the Royal Shakespeare Company for its 2000-2001 season. Tate began to gain attention because of her stand-up comedic performances in 1996.
